Goals are a big part of life, no matter if you are a student or a working professional. The point of a goal is to give you something to work towards. DD Coleman knows the importance of having something to work towards and that is why his sister is a role model for him.
“My older sister has had a big influence on my life,” he said. “Every goal she has wanted to accomplish, she has accomplished or she is on track to accomplish. That is really awesome to me and that is how I want to be.”
Coleman is a senior at Ardmore High School. He plays point guard for the Tigers basketball team. DD says that he loves the game of basketball and this is his twelfth year of playing. He says that while he loves the game and enjoys playing the game, his skill and abilities did not just happen overnight.
“I have put in a lot in order to get to where I am today,” he said. “There has been a lot of hard work at practice and even on my own time. I also have to keep myself motivated. It is not always easy to get up early and go to the gym or put in practice time, but it is what is necessary if you want to succeed.”
Throughout his career, Coleman has enjoyed some great moments with his teammates. He says that one of his favorite memories was more of a team accomplishment.
“My favorite sports memory happened last basketball season,” he said. “We made it to the State basketball tournament. It was great to see the hard work pay off like that. We advanced to the semifinals before getting beat by Carl Albert, who eventually won the championship.”
Ardmore head boys basketball coach Kyle Jessie says that DD is an outstanding athlete and knows how to take charge on the court.
“Coleman is an outstanding player with a high basketball IQ, the coach said. “He averaged 18 points per game last season. He comes into this season looking to build off of last season.”
