Ardmore High School sophomore Ka’lahna Taylor is an player to watch on the basketball court. The 5’7 point guard has played the sport for eight years after her father got her interested in it. Lady Tigers head coach David Vann recognizes Taylor’s abilities and potential.
“Ka’lahna Taylor is going to be a very special basketball player in the coming years because of her true point guard skills as a shooter, passer, and defense,” said Coach Vann. “Right now she hasn’t scraped the surface yet. Hopefully in the next year as a junior, she will understand more about her abilities and where those will take her. Overall, she has the tools to be very good in high school and beyond.”
Part of what pushes Taylor to strive for greatness is her motivation to make those around her proud. This includes many people who support and encourage her, including her teammates.
“My teammates mean everything to me,” said Taylor. “I trust them under pressure. They push me to be better and pick me up when I’m down. It’s more than just playing together – we’re a unit. I wouldn’t be who I am without them.”
Off the court, Taylor knows that it is important to maintain a high standard of conduct.
“Having character off and on the court means staying respectful, disciplined no matter where you go or where you are,” she said. “Doing the right thing when people are watching and when they’re not.”
Taylor also plays softball and runs track. After high school she would like to pursue either basketball or softball at the collegiate level.
