QUICK HITS: Ardmore and Chickasha square off on October 4th for the first time since 2015. The Tigers are on an 11 game winning streak against the Fightin’ Chicks and last lost to Chickasha in 2002. Lawton MacArthur drops off the schedule for the first time since 2010. The Highlanders and Tigers have played 49 times with MacArthur holding a 27- 22 edge in the series.
Last season was a tough one for the Tigers. But as they enter this new season, they are looking for players to step up and make a big impact. Head coach Josh Newby is in his tenth season leading the program and he is ready to get the season underway. “The 2024 Tigers are looking forward to the upcoming season,” he said. “Six freshmen contributed in 2023 and with the added experience we’re excited to get the year started.” K’Drien Miller (5-10, 165, So.) will lead the offense at quarterback. Joining him in the backfield will be fullback Kylen Haskins (5-8, 195, Sr.), who will work to keep defenders away from Miller and tote the ball when called on. Maintaining things on the offensive line will be Jacoby Jefferson (6-5, 315, So.) at tackle. Tyson Laster (5-10, 165, So.) and Daemon Cohee (5-9, 155, So.) will both be at slot receiver and will be two top targets for Miller to get the ball to. Laster started at running back last season and had a very productive season. He has a tremendous upside and should be an impact player. Also making the move from running back to slot is Cohee. He brings a quickness to the position and is an outstanding young man.
DEFENSE
One of the key players on defense will be linebacker Javon Singleton (6-1, 212, Sr.), who is a three-year starter for the Tigers. Javon had 148 tackles in 10 games as a junior. He is a versatile athlete and an even better person. Working to wreak havoc on opponents up front will be Gavin Lewis (6-1, 290, Sr.) at nose guard. He is a strong and smart player that will lead the big guys on the defensive line. Another lineman to watch for will be Cody White. He plays with great technique and always seems to be in the right place. Cody represents Ardmore in a great way and he’s a tremendous student in the hallways. Assistant coaches are Josiah Custar, Grant Naylor, Larry Coley, Zack Birth, Wayne Rogers, Casey Vasquez, Ryan Keeton, Tony Gresham and Bob Richmond.
