Teachers are a vital part of our society, helping to grow the next generation of leaders and citizens. Allen Coley says that when he was a student, he had someone who impacted his life and put him on the course he is on today.
“I had a coach in high school who invested in me and made a difference in my life,” he said. “I want to help students and athletes make a difference in the world today. Having a love for sports and wanting to coach at the high school level, I got into the education field to help pursue my career.”
Coley teaches AP Biology, Pre-AP Biology, and Biology II to ninth through twelfth graders at Ardmore High School. He is in his twelfth year at Ardmore, but he previously taught at Dibble and Chickasha.
Whether it is in the classroom or on the field, Allen hopes to be influential to his students and their future.
“I enjoy seeing students succeed on and off the field or in the classroom,” he said. “When you have former students get in touch with you later in life, and tell you that you helped set them on their career paths, is a good feeling.”
Over the years, Coley has been given numerous pieces of advice. While a lot of them have been beneficial, there is one that has helped.
“Be flexible because not every student learns at the same pace,” he stated.
Allen is married to his wife, Kim, and they have two kids, Abbigayle and Trae. His family is important to him, and he enjoys being with them when he is not in the classroom.
“I like spending time with my family and supporting the Oklahoma Sooners,” he said.
